Project 1 - Performance Evaluation
Lighting and Acoustic performances within spaces are essential to keep the occupants in comfortable and better quality state. However, due to the desired design of the building and as well as the desired environment of the spaces that the owner wats to deliver to their guest, the standard lighting and acoustic requirements might not achieve the optimum quality. In this project, students are required to conduct a real life case study, choose a buiding and conduct respective lighting and acoustic analysis within the selected spaces. Therefore, in a group of 6, our group has chosen Whup Whup Cafe, which is locates at SS19, Subang Jaya to conduct the analysis.
I was in a group with Hiew Eyang, Hon Yi Hang, E Jy Huey, Yew Jie En and Low Jia Cheng in this project. We have chosen Whup Whup Cafe, which is a yarn factory renovated restarant located at SS19, Subang Jaya. Because of the lightuing and acoustic requirements of factory and restaurant are very different and could affect the present occupants comfort and space usage quality, it allows us to find out the possible threats and issues that occurs in the restaurant, and conduct our analysis respectively. Moreover, the restaurant is located within the industrial district in Subang Jaya, with neighbouring factories such as food processing factory and other factory, therefore, the acoustic performances within th restaurant is the main issue to the occupants.
Reflective
Throughout the process, we are very fortunate to met the very friendly and kind restaurant owners, Ms Pojoo And Asher Levi at Whup Whup Cafe, with their help and detail information that they gave us, they really help us to successfully complete this project. From the floor plans to the lighting and acoustic details, with the ethusiatic restaurant designer Ms Pojoo, who was very generous in prviding us relative information, and Mr Asher Levi, which first welcomed and support to conduct our analysis during their normal business time, we were all very pleased and appreciate their support to our project. And by the completion of the project, we manage to learn the hand on function of the lux meter and decibel meter, which allows us to conduct the lighting and acoustic analysis within the space. Nevertheless, Mr Siva provided us with related knowledge and resources that allow us to coninue the project smoothly, and with his valuable suggestions, we manage to pass this subject with flying colour.
