AR
Our group choosed the Lotus Temple as the building for this project as the uniqueness of the form of the building and also the material used and construction in such curvy form of the leaves of the building. We used modelling boards and cards as the main materials for the model because the actual lotus temple is milky in colour, the modelling cards also represents the white greek marble cladding on the exterior of the leaves. We did a half section of the building, showing the ribs that support the dome at the center of the building and also the section of the leaves showing the white concrete in between the exterior and interior cladding. Other than that, we also did 2 zoomed-in section of the leaves and the ribs showing the detail of steel mesh in the leaves and also in the ribs.
Reflective
The curved in form of the leaves were the main obstacle of this project as we have continue to experiment the measurements and dimensions of the leaves so that it could meet the scale of the model. After we did the 3 layers to leaves, we were able to continue with the inner dome and ribs and also the arches which shows the solid and skeletal in the building. At first, we found it hard to distinguish solid and surface, but with references we did able to learn more about the 3 basic members of the building and also learn the determination of the architect in designing the Lotus Temple.
Project 2 - Understanding Forces in Solid Structure and Surface Structure
Continue with the previous groupmates, students were required to make a scale down model of a selected building of their own to show the solid, skeletal and surface of the building. Students are also required to record the process of the model making in a A4 bounded report, and also an individual analysation of the connection between the members in the building and include the in formation in an A3 Sheet.
