Project 2 - Integration Project
With the knowledge, analysis and calculation techniques that have learnt from project 1, project 2 is to transfer the techniques that we have learnt into students' Design Studio 5 project, which is to predict and analyse the project's lighting and acoustic performances. In terms of lighting, including the lumen method, space ratio and room index, in terms of acoustic includes reverberation time, sound reduction index and external noises, these are to be analyse in our design project.
The design concept of my building is "Oasis", which the interior is occupied by circulating platform ramps to embarks the feeling of circulation, alive and growth. There are 2 platform ramps that act as the library area, which destined to respective study areas. The spaces that are chosen to conduct the analysis include the meeting room, public study area, cafe, office and workshop. Where these spaces has issue in terms of lighting such as the office and workshop which is located underground and natural light is not sufficient. While for the acoustic analysis, it was mainly focus at the meeting room and public reading area, which is located near the main road and to maintain their acoustic privacy through special acoustic designs.
Reflective
Before this module started, I have not really considering the typa of material, construction spaces and type of luminaires that may affect my previous designs. After these project, it has taught me to predict the possible issue and solution to the respective spaces, considering natural and artificial lighting levels, acoustic performance according to spatial arrangements and design tactics. This module has really reevaluate my design perspective and to think not only the exerior aestheticness of the building, but also the interior environment of the spaces are to be enhance to ensure occupants comfortability.
